End of 2009, Plans For 2010
I released one album in 2009, the Ambient Matyk album that I made with Jon Harnish. This was a digital-only release (iTunes, AmazonMP3, Napster, Rhapsody, Spotify, etc).
Made some videos. The Water Tower from the Ambient Matyk album. Winter Wind Chimes from the Mark Rushton and Jon Harnish album. Russia’s Very Low Frequency Station, an edited version of a track from a 2005 podcast.
Released 6 podcasts in 2009:
- #33 – “Recent Free MP3s” on January 6, 2009. 6259 downloads in 2009.
- #34 – “Flow Outtakes” on March 15, 2009. 13,077 downloads in 2009.
- #35 – “April Fool’s Podcast” on April 1, 2009, one day only. 701 downloads.
- #36 – “More Flow Outtakes” on July 18, 2009. 2854 downloads in 2009.
- #37 – “Return To Bohemia” on August 4, 2009. 9044 downloads in 2009.
- #38 – “Ambient Matyk” on October 18, 2009. 5456 downloads in 2009.
Here are some plans for 2010:
There will probably be a CD release for Ambient Matyk, perhaps by February. Jon and I also want to release Ornate Culmination on CD. This will both likely happen through CafePress, which prints CDs on-demand and which we’ve used for past releases. CDs are a lower-demand item these days and I’m just not interested in having some pressed and sitting around as inventory anymore.
Jon and I have another Ambient Matyk album ready. Tentative title is “Weathering“. It’ll contain the “Esker” EP which was put out for free in 2008, along with (hopefully) some tracks we did with guitarist Craig Erickson, and some other pieces Jon and I have worked on since 2007.
Tentative track listing:
- A Short Drive Through Kingston (1:07)
- Bathyscaphe (4:16)
- Challenger Deep (3:20)
- The Flood (21:13)
- Hotel Jefferson (4:27)
- Carpenter’s 3rd (5:40)
- Ten Foot Tomato (3:20)
- Circadian Drift (3:20)
- Esker (11:27)
- Drumlin (5:33)
- Weathering (5:44)
Jon and I also want to release some recordings we made live In Iowa City in 2005 and 2006. The first album, from 2005, has 8 tracks. They are very loose, humorous, and have some light beats in places. There’s another live recording from either late 2005 or spring 2006. These would be released as Ambient Matyk recordings.
In addition to all this, I have more than enough material for another solo album.
For podcasts, Jon and I want to do an audio commentary of the Ambient Matyk album we released in the fall of 2008. It would be us talking over the recording, much like an audio commentary that you hear on DVDs. We wanted to get this done before the end of 2009, but work schedules, family commitments, and exceptionally bad winter weather had made this impossible to complete.
